Barkas & Addie

Presented at the BSPC: Ranboo (January 2016)

I am a bondage educator, performance artist, writer and event organizer.  I became an Osada Ryu instructor in 2011 when I opened the Shibari Dojo Vienna. Since then I am one of the 4 licensed Osada Ryu instructors of the world. In 2015 I got a “given name“ by Yukimura Haruki Sensei. Harutsuyu. This honor allows me to teach Yukimura Ryu as well. Another huge influence is the friendship with Nawashi Kanna Sensei and Kagura San, which started I co-organized their first tour outside of Japan in 2013. As a product of this high level education, I developed my own, very specific style called “Ranboo”, which is a highly dynamical and stormy way of doing and thinking Kinbaku.

I co-organized the annual Viennese Rope Festival and other events such as the “A night full of Kinbaku”. Within my work as a Kinbaku teacher and performer, I cooperate with different artists and arts institutions, such as the Zafraan ensemble, the Viennese Tanzquartier, the photographer Tom Hofmann and others.

A special focus of me is the implementation of various philosophical, sociological, physical, mathematical and historical ideas into my approach. A recent development of me is the metaphor of tying as an interview – a certain mind-set that can help to perfect one’s own style. Intellectuality and emotionality don’t contradict each other. „To fill the techniques with life and personality“. I don’t tie people, I tie with them.

Performances and Workshops all over the world, such as at Shibaricon (‘14 & ‘15) in Chicago, at Moscow knot, at Kannawa Kai in Tokyo, at West Coast Bound in Vancouver and many other events and occasions made has made me a well-known and demanded Kinbaku artist. View his class list and more by visiting his website.

About Addie

Addie stumbled into rope several years ago as a bottom and it has been bringing her immense joy ever since. She loves losing herself in the melt, twitch, exhale, pull, hold, gasp, attack, touch, sink, sigh, float… there’s nothing else like it. She discovered her inner switch when she dove into tying and self-suspension as alternate methods of practicing and experiencing rope, and found that she likes being on that end of the rope too. She also has a soft spot for creative sadism, and for giggling while ouching people. She helps run the Vancouver chapter of Hitchin Bitches.

Addie has had the immense good fortune of sharing time with some wonderful people on her rope journey. Her current path has her travelling, performing, and co-teaching with Barkas on his global adventures. Highlights thus far include Prague, New York, Vienna, Chicago, and Paris. She is curious to see where this journey takes her next.

Presented at the BSPC: Rope Workshop (December 2016)

Giotto has been in the public scene for 6 years and has played at home for more than 14. 6 years ago he found a passion for rope and set out to master it. He has an obsession with making the finest quality bondage rope in the world. His mottos in rope are: “Rope Bondage is Easy and Fun” and “The basics of rope bondage are not edge play.”

Outside of BDSM he is a Knight in the SCA where he practiced and taught sword fighting for over 20 years. His experiences give him a unique intensity and focus in all of his BDSM play. Some would consider Giotto’s sadism extreme, but really it’s just the adult version of pulling the hair of a girl he likes on the playground to get her attention.

Teaching Experience
Giotto has a passion for teaching beginners. He prides himself on his ability to breakdown a tie or skill into small digestible parts and not leaving any student behind. He loves to see his students quickly progress and share what they learn with others.

Giotto has been teaching Rope and BDSM Skills for 6 years, and has taught sword fighting for 22. More than 5 years ago he formed his own BDSM education group, Giotto’s Open House, where he taught between 2 and 8 classes a month. Additionally he held a weekly rope class in Central New York before moving back to Texas. Now, he teaches rope classes weekly at his dojo in Houston, TX in addition to teaching at conventions and local groups around the country.

He has taught at Bound in Boston, Bondage Expo Dallas, ShibariCon, TES Fest, KinkyCon, Austin GRUE, Wicked Ithaca, Rochester Erotic Arts Festival, Rochester Kink Society, Porter Square Rope Night, September Surrender, Giotto’s Open House, numerous small local groups around NY and TX.

Presented at the BSPC: Rope Intensive (October2016)

FredRx began tying several years ago, using a variety of Eastern and Western techniques to enhance his BDSM scenes. He quickly developed an independent passion for rope, and began learning rope for its own sake. This passion led him to seek out teachers and workshops around the States and eventually, abroad, where he focused on learning as many styles and techniques as he could find. He then worked to integrate this knowledge back into his own primal and intuitive style of play, which has allowed him to combine complex rope and improvisational scenes in a completely unique manner. He now teaches his own style of primal rope, but always encourages students to manipulate and expand his methods to fit their own needs.

Presented at the BSPC: Bootblacking Basics & Beyond (December 2015), Consent Workshop (Monthly)

Jo (Glorious) is an independent queer, non-binary, kinky, polyamorous, blood and needle top, Leather Person and Dominant.  They’ve been part of the greater Seattle kink community since 2013, have been advocating for survivors of sexual violence since 1996, and educating kinksters about consent from the moment they realized that such a dangerous void existed within the kink community.  They’re an active leader in the Leather community with Seattle Women in Leather (SWL) and Everett Leather Alliance (ELA) as well as an Education Coordinator at the Bellingham Sex Positive Center (BSPC).

From the first exposure to needle play, Jo was driven to create art in wretched, gorgeous ways. They’ve been blessed with a support network which has continued to facilitate their passion, and they’ve had volunteers who have provided both canvas and imagination for continued inspiration.  The visceral, primal aspects of blood – the proximity to the edge of life and death – never ceases to impress and titillate them.  So much so that they are compelled to share their kink in local classes on artistic needleplay.  They’ve played music upon strings of pain and given flight to a friend’s journey.

Their passion for consent is imperfect.  They understand how quickly and completely consent can be violated from personal experience, and uses that knowledge to help others navigate terrifying waters of consent violations (on both sides), incorporate ideas on how to negotiate satisfying scenes that respect consent, and understand fundamentals of consent language.

They are committed to assisting the kink community in making consent and negotiation workshops available and engaging for all community members, sharing decades of experience and knowledge to improve safety and support for those in the kink community.  They are also happy to share knowledge and passion for artistic needles with other blood fiends with hands on workshops and performance demonstrations.

River Dark

Presented at the BSPC: Cock Sucking & Face Fucking: Getting the Most Out of Your Member, The Edge of Madness: Fear & Terror Play (November 2016)

River Dark was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is a poly dyke Top/switch, a writer and an educator. She loves to think about and talk about Leather & kink – and to share her ideas and skills with others. Trained as an actor, she currently expresses herself artistically by writing and reading porn, teaching workshops, and by creating scenes. Her SM erotica can be found in a variety of anthologies and she is currently working on a book of essays and short stories.

River has been out as a pervert for 25 years (but thinking about it all of her life). For the past 11 of those she has presented her workshops to rave reviews across Canada, the US, and recently London, England.

While some of her workshops teach physical skills, she is most interested in the mind as the seat of power, so many of her workshops explore the psychological aspects of play. As a presenter she gathers her information from her experiences both bottoming and Topping, the people in her life, the scene she has been exposed to, and the many workshops she has attended over the years.

A great deal of research goes into each of River’s workshops to create an engaging, fact-filled and thought-provoking experience. It is her intention that every workshop brings something new to each participant, no matter what their level of experience is – whether it be a new way of looking at play or simply a creative idea that they have never considered. Her goal is for every workshop to be dense with information, supportive of the participants, and fun to attend.

domenique has been River Dark’s property for over 5 years, and was in training with her for the year and a half prior to that. She came out into kink when she was 19 and immediately embraced it with mind, body and soul. She spends a great deal of her time running around in her own head, and enjoys sharing those thoughts with a wider audience.

Presented at the BSPC: Working on Your Swing (December 2015)

Roughinamorato is a charmingly sadistic bastard who firmly believes that kink should be fun; just because you’re beating or torturing someone doesn’t mean you can’t both have a good laugh between the screams. He’s been presenting and teaching in the vanilla world as a software geek for over 15 years, and active and presenting in the BDSM scene since 2006.

He runs Rough Crowd, a monthly rough body play workshop in Chicago, and takes that knowledge on the road with the Rough Crowd Road Trip, a rough body play intensive weekend that has made appearances in Detroit, Boston, Minneapolis, Toronto, and Columbus. He has taught at events across the country including Shibaricon, Dark Odyssey (Fusion and Winter Fire), Winter Wickedness, Rope Camp, and the Fetish Flea, and has run rough body play intensive weekends at The Center for Sex Positive Culture in Seattle and NELA. He also runs Cigar Chicago, a monthly-ish smoker.

His journey of self-discovery into kink and BDSM – things that have really always been there, deep inside for him – has led him to want to share that joy and pain with others, through classes about BDSM, kink, and sexual expression, both physically-oriented and mentally-focused.

For more you can find him on FetLife, follow him on Twitter @roughinamorato, or visit his website for a class list.

Presented at the BSPC:   Spirituality, Pain & Fun (November 2015)

Rowan is a powerful business woman by day, that learned early on that the only way to survive is to spend her free time delving into the fun, and sometimes dark sides of kink, spirituality, and body modification. She has taught many classes on sacred body rituals and rites of passage (dedicating the flesh), exploring our dark sides, and learning how to enjoy and grow through body sensations. She is also ridiculous enough to occasionally offer to stunt bottom for some very specific presenters and presentations, and as a pesky switch you can sometimes see her teach as a top. She avoids societal labels and enjoys the confusion she often creates. Her purpose in life is to experience all that life has to offer in the superficial world, as well as in play and body rites. In doing this she hopes to bring the meaning of Tribe to communities.

Safrika Morgan

Presented at the BSPC: Rope Intensive (July 2016)

Presented at the BSPC: Rope Intensive (July 2016)

Tho4ns (ThoRns) has been practicing rope bondage as well as bondage photography since early 2003. While these are very much a lifelong pursuits for him, his focus is on the more traditional Japanese aspects of rope bondage which are echoed in his tying style. As a rigger his passion remains un-satiated for bringing to the surface the more engaging and connected aspects of rope bondage. There is an inexplicable beauty in confining the body, and through this, freeing the mind and the heart. It is the journey of getting there and back, however which is the most captivating. Especially how this, sometimes winding road, is interpreted by and through one’s partner by way of the complex and creative language of rope.  Images are the best effort to capture moments of this story. To evoke and pull on the same strings but they can never truly represent the depth which comes through the exchange. As a photographer Tho4ns is drawn to getting as close as possible to capturing the emotions of rope bondage and sparking intrigue. His work has been published in magazines, books and online publications worldwide including on his own blog at
